TAD Arc

What is TAD Arc?

TAD Arc is TAD electronics’ proprietary network for IoT communications. It is an end-to-end, 4g MNO network that allows you to communicate with your TAD devices wirelessly. TAD Arc is generations ahead of other smart meter systems and asset tracker networks, and is a property we are proud to call our own.

Summary

Here we outline why we use Arc (plug-and-play onboarding, robust throughput, remote management), where it fits (security, telemetry, mobile assets) and how it future-proofs deployments while keeping power budgets and operating costs in check.

The Technology Behind TAD Arc

In the realm of IoT, connectivity is crucial. Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) offer robust solutions through their cellular networks, particularly with 4G technology. This technology provides extensive coverage and reliability, essential for various applications in the electrical engineering field. The benefits of 4G include fast data transmission, reduced latency, and increased network capacity. These features support IoT deployments in real-time data exchange scenarios, such as optimising power distribution grids or enhancing industrial automation processes.

Transitioning to 4G has provided immediate benefits and prepares us for the 5G era. As the industry looks forward to 5G’s advancements, TAD is positioned to leverage greater bandwidth, ultra-low latency, and advanced network slicing capabilities. This forward-thinking approach highlights the adaptability and innovation of cellular-based IoT solutions, laying a strong foundation for future growth and technological progress in the field.

While 5G is on the horizon, the network is still developing. We prioritise coverage and stability for our customers, and 4G remains a highly capable technology ideal for a multitude of IoT use cases. Data from ABI Research shows that 4G dominates IoT connectivity, with over 60% of IoT modules utilising the technology.

Why We Use TAD Arc

TAD Arc offers a straightforward, plug-and-play solution. Hubs actively listen, while tags and sensors continuously update the location and status of various assets, transmitting data at regular intervals. Once powered, your device seamlessly connects to the low-power, long-range digital data network comprising TAD Arc hubs and tags.

Many applications benefit from the high data rates, low latency, high reliability, and widespread availability of 4G and 4G LTE. Our case studies illustrate how our solutions have assisted our customers. For instance, the Armadillo, a rapid deployment 360-degree security device developed by TAD, uses video surveillance and PIR sensors to monitor and secure facilities like building sites, airports, transport hubs, and public spaces. In this application, video cameras and sensors require the high data capacity of 4G/4G LTE to send live images to a control centre. 4G/4G LTE connectivity is also crucial for mobile cameras on police vehicles, drones, or wearable body cams.

There are many more applications for our IoT solutions, which you can explore further. If you have a question or problem that requires a telemetric solution, we are the company to contact.
